Experts say that business transactions between criminals are on the rise in the virtual world creating a new cyber crime business sector in itself. There are criminal syndicates who operate in the internet who rent out their wares like botnets (Botnet is a collection of software robots, or bots, which run autonomously and automatically. They run on groups of "zombie" computers controlled remotely by hackers.) A senior Estonian official recently said for the first time that the cyber attacks earlier this year against his country's government and commercial Internet infrastructure were carried out using a network of computers infected with special hacker software that had been rented from a criminal syndicate. Unfortunately, law enforcement agencies often lag these cyber criminals who sell their merchandise through a variety of ingenious means and get paid using various online cash transfer mechanisms. The law enforcement agencies will soon have to battle organised cyber crime rackets who are much ahead of them in using technology to run their business. |
